Baby trial run
My Mum, my Brother and his gorgeous baby Callum are due to arrive in Brisbane tomorrow! As you know Leon and I have been racing around setting up nursery equipment and other such paraphernalia. Our latest little project has been repainting a chest of draws I have had for 20 years and replacing the handles with cute little teddy ones. It has actually turned out really well and looks quite cute. It will be interesting to have a trial run through and see if all our plans work with an actual baby!
Suzie’s Baby Shower
Suzie and I have the same career and have been friends since 2000 when we had our initial training together. We have been though a lot together and it was a great pleasure for me to be involved in organising her surprise baby shower.
Suzie actually lives in Adelaide with most of her family up here in Brisbane (sounds familiar) so when she had a holiday in Brisbane a few of us thought it was a perfect time to celebrate her up coming arrival. I was in charge of invitations, games and prizes. The whole day was fun and I know she really enjoyed herself.
Good luck Suzie for October, we will see your bundle of joy when we are down in Adelaide end of November.

Parents to be week 3
Our 3rd class of Parents To Be explained pain relief from simple meditation through to epidurals and spinal blocks. It was an interesting and informative session. I think our plan is to take it all as it comes and make decisions on the day once we know all the circumstances. I am enjoying that the classes are interactive and involve the students creating most of the thought processes and direction for the lesson.

Leon and Shari's DIY nursery
Leon and I can't put it off any longer, we had to go and buy some nursery furniture and baby paraphernalia. My brother Craig and his 8 month old baby Callum are in Australia for a visit. They will be in QLD to catch up with Leon and I on Wednesday 16th - 20th.
So we brought home on Saturday a cot, high chair, bath/change station and car seat. All baby stuff requires setting up, learning how to use and adjusting to the correct baby dimensions. Saturday night with beer in one hand (Leon) and allen key in the other, Leon pain stakingly followed my directions as I read the manuals!
The funniest moment (still makes me giggle now) was on Sunday morning when we got up early to put the cot together. The cot has a low setting for when your baby is sitting up and can potentially try and climb out. It also has a higher setting for the younger baby that is not mobile. Well you have to choose one or the other....not like us who assembled one end of the cot on high and the other end on low. I laughed and laughed when we turned the cot up the right way and it looked more like a slippery dip then a cot!!! Leon was not impressed with me! He did not even wait for me to get the camera....what a bad sport :-( !!!!

Parents to Be - Week 2
Leon and I passed our first test as 'parents to be'...we were actually able to find our way through the hospital back to the education rooms for our second Parents to Be class. This week’s class covered labour and birth. I won’t go into any details....lets just say Leon did a lot of turning green and I wanted to know if I could change my mind about having a baby. Everyone keeps telling me that millions of woman have done this before me....sorry but that comment is just not that comforting.
One thing that was nice during this class was learning and practising massage techniques. It was all about ME and making ME feel better! The mid wife did stress to the 'poor husbands' that us women might be as sweet as pie one moment and a complete raving monster the next! Look out Leon if you happen to be in swinging room when giving me a massage and the Shari monster makes an appearance.
The big drama of week 2 class was the real life fainting of one of the mothers to be. She seemed a little distracted during class and kept going for water and the toilet. On her last trip out we heard a very large thump. She had collapsed on the very hard floor of the hallway. She was awake and talking by the end of class but I am unsure how she landed or if she hurt anything. I hope she is ok.

Leon and I attended our first 'Parents To Be' class on 24th Jun. We have 6 weeks worth of 2 hour classes at the Wesley Hospital where we will eventually have the baby in about 9 weeks (all going to plan!). The class has 5 other couples in it, all first time parents, all due around the same time as us.
Our first class included a tour of the maternity ward and birthing suits. It all looks just like I had imagined it would. Everything seems more real now that I can actually visualise the rooms where we will spend our time during our stay.
The first class also included a very detailed lesson in female anatomy...hehe I actually learnt a few things I did not know about myself! One funny moment during the class happened as the mid wife was explaining how the baby turns as it is birthed. Leon asked if babies always turned the same direction....she seemed stumped and had no answer for this....I pipped up and said maybe it is like the toilet water, one direction here and the other in the USA. Most 'parents to be' had a giggle but the mid wife looked completely confused by my comment (obviously not a Bart Simpson’s fan).
It is going to be a good 6 week course once everyone comes out of their shell; there are a few 'big' personalities in the class.
